Finnair Announces New Direct Flights from Helsinki to Sapporo
Fly direct from the heart of Europe to Hokkaido with Finnair's newly announced routes.
As part of its growth strategy, Finnair today announced it will open a new route for the winter 2019/2020 season to Sapporo, Japan. Finnair will fly the new route from mid-December to mid-March with two weekly frequencies.
The direct flights into New Chitose International Airport means travellers from Europe can conveniently fly straight into Sapporo from Helsinki without the need to stop in Tokyo or Osaka and change to a domestic flight. That means no more picking up luggage and checking in again before that final hop to Hokkaido because you can come through customs in the International Terminal in Sapporo!
The new routes will be a short flight time (approximately 8-9 hours); the quickest way from Europe to Sapporo. Helsinki is a well-established hub in Europe with quick turnaround times meaning you can connect from any major city in Europe.
With New Chitose International Airport as Niseko's nearest airport, it's now even easier for European travellers to experience world-famous Niseko in winter.
The twice weekly flights will use the Airbus A330 aircraft, departing Helsinki on Thursdays and Sundays and returning from Sapporo on Fridays and Mondays. The first flights will be on 16 December 2019 and run until 27 March 2020.
With Finnair renowned for its great route schedules, travellers can expect flights will leave Japan around 11am Japan time arriving in Helsinki mid-afternoon. For trips from Helsinki, travellers can expect flights departing in the early evening and arriving in Sapporo in the morning around 9am... perfect timing to arrive in Niseko for lunch!
Finnair's very reasonable rates and top world ratings mean Hokkaido will be a bucket-list travel destination for European travellers in 2019.
