In Pursuit of Pizza Perfection
There are few stronger expressions of foreign cuisine than in the pizzas being produced in Niseko. We review the sauciest slices.
Being such a multicultural location, Niseko benefits from a variety of culinary influences. Italian food has gained a strong foothold with a number of restaurants already serving up pizzas and pastas and more opening each season. The following are some of our favourites.
Niseko Pizza
Niseko Pizza is one of the most well known pizza restaurants in the area. There are few cooler spaces to enjoy this Italian staple with its great decor and ambience. The library of wines in the mezzanine from adjoining bar, Micks, provides an elegant backdrop to your meal.
Niseko Pizza serve up gourmet, thin-crust pizzas that pack in the flavour. There are some great options like the French Fry topped Tom & Jerry and totally tasty Hannibal Lecter.
There are also pastas, ribs and a great selection of sides if you are not in the pizza mood. We recommend making a reservation as Niseko Pizza can get busy in peak periods or try out their delivery service.
Lava Lounge Pizza
This upper village gem has been serving Hirafu's pizza loving population for many years. Lava Lounge is Hirafu's staple slice supplier and many make use of their delivery option. Nothing quite like a steaming hot pizza to enjoy in your chalet with friends on a cold winter night.
Lava Lounge offer both a classic range with all your favourites and a gourmet range loaded with premium ingredients. Toppings are piled high and spread wide so you will not be left wanting. More of an American style pizza than a simple Italian offering.
Also make sure you try and catch the lovable Lava Lounge mascot who can usually be seen plying his trade at the main Hirafu intersection during the winter months.
B.C.C. White Rock
B.C.C. White Rock, sister store to the well known Kutchan bakery, Baking Company White Rock, is a small corrugated iron building located on the outskirts of Kutchan on your way to Hanazono. B.C.C. keeps a low profile with only a small number of seats and a lunch only service, being open from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm everyday except Sunday.
The quality of pizza produced at the B.C.C. kitchen is outstanding and stands among the best in the area. The dough is light and crispy and supports a number of great topping options from the spicy Diavola to the simple Margherita.
Prices here are very reasonable and the speedy service comes with a smile. Grab a coffee, iced latte, juice or wine to go with your meal and don't forget to try their chili sauce (caution, its extra hot).
Pizza Del Sole
Pizza Del Sole is Annupuri's hidden gem. This little pizzeria punches above its weight and as such can quickly fill up due to its limited size. Do not despair you can also order takeaway. You will do anything to secure a slice from Del Sole once you've tasted one of these pizzas.
Wood fired to perfection and topped with a number of classic ingredients these are simple yet tasty works of art. Another work of art is their pizza oven which stands behind the counter with its beautiful white tiles and booming flames.
Parking is available if you are driving or take a short walk from the Annupuri Ski Area. We recommend getting there early as there is often a wait. Regular holidays on Sunday and Monday.
