Japanuary Delivering The Japow
Japanuary is living up to the hype, delivering one metre of snow in the first week of 2020!
Niseko is known for its long winter season. There are big powder days starting in early December and lasting all the way until late March but it is January that stands out as the jewel in this powdery crown.
Snow falling in December goes to work covering the mountain, filling in creeks and gaps and solidifying to form the base layer. This sets the stage for January and provides a perfect powder platform. January snow can then collect in huge stashes between the trees and cover open faces to provide a canvas for all to show off their shredding skills.
Cumulative total snowfall in the first seven days of 2020: 100 cm
With the first week of the new year delivering in such quantities we are excited to see what else the snow gods have in store.
