Mount Yotei Hiking Trails Open
On Saturday 11th June the traditional ceremony to open the summer hiking trails of Niseko's most famous mountain, Mount Yotei, was performed in glorious sunshine.
Mount Yotei stands tall over Niseko Resort year round and in summer offers some of the most spectacular hiking in the area. At 1,898m "Ezo Fuji", as she is known locally, presents a tough day hike to even the fittest of trekkers.
On Saturday 11th June, Kutchan Tourism Board hosted the traditionally opening ceremony of the mountain, with blessings and prayers offered to the mountain to protect those who hike over the summer.
The ceremony was followed with traditional drumming from a local taiko group. Performing regularly in Niseko over the winter (including weekly performances at Green Farm Cafe and Ki Niseko every Sunday) you might well recognise some of the drummers, but we loved this one especially because of the kids taking part!
Check out the video below and join us in welcoming Mount Yotei to the wide range of summer hiking options open for your pleasure!
