Niseko in Consideration for Winter Olympics
Sapporo is bidding to host the 2030 Winter Olympic Games and Niseko has been put forward as a potential competition venue in their proposal.
Sapporo hosted the Winter Olympics in 1972 and is again in the running to host, this time in 2030. As part of the application, the bidding team has put forward Niseko Village as its recommended venue for alpine and downhill racing events.
The International Ski Federation (FIS) has reviewed the 'Yunosawa' area between Niseko Village and Annupuri for angles, difficulty and snow quality to decide if it is the right location for the Games.
While it is still to be confirmed, this is hugely exciting news for the area and we all have our fingers crossed that the application is successful.
