Something's in the air. The hint of winter with the first snow of the season having already arrived and the incredible shades of copper and gold covering the mountainside. With the autumn leaves peaking now and over the next week or so, be sure to head out and about to capture nature's most colourful season in Niseko.

Here are some of the best places to enjoy the beautiful autumn display, but you had better be quick!

Fukidashi Park

Located in Kyogoku Town, Fukidashi park has approximately 80,000 tons of water spilling out of its natural springs every day; Kyogoku Town itself is famous as the village of water! The park features two large ponds and interconnecting streams where the famous spring water flows. Visitors can also collect the fresh water into their bottles and take away with them. A popular spot for sightseeing tours all through the year, Fukidashi Park is a must-see in autumn.

Shinsen-numa

An easy boardwalk, great for ages and fitness abilities, Shinsen-numa is a great location to feel the autumn atmosphere and see the beautiful shades of copper. With "shinsen" meaning god and "numa" meaning marsh, the autumn landscape features a golden grassy plain reminiscent of a painting. Since Naganuma is also nearby, be sure to stop by there for more!

Chisenupuri

Take a hike at Chisenupuri to enjoy epic mountain views and beautiful autumn leaves. A dormant volcano shaped like a overturned bowl, enjoy views of Mt. Yotei and Annupuri from the summit of Chisenupuri . The hike will take around one hour to the top.

Lake Hangetsu

"Hangetsu" meaning half moon, this iconic lake situated at the base of Mt. Yotei is a autumn sightseeing delight. A small lake, roughly 18 metres deep, it is a easy-moderate 20 minute walk from the parking lot to the lake shore. Enjoy the peaceful scenery with the lake surrounded by golden hues.

Panorama Line

Take a scenic autumn drive along the Panorama Line with its winding roads and views that go on and on. Surrounded by mountains, the landscape is also a popular road for bike tours and more. Since it will be closed in winter, be sure to visit in October before winter.

Shirakabayama

A great hike for beginners with the end reward is well worth it with the beautiful contrast between the coloured mountains and marsh of Shirakabayama and Shakunage-numa.

Makkari Arboretum

The Makkari Arboretum is a great autumn stop if you're on a sightseeing drive around Mt.Yotei with a playground and popular tofu shop nearby. If you are lucky, you might even meet a squirrel as it forages in the final preparation for winter!
